Routing Policies Configuration Overview
To configure a routing policy:
- Determine what you want to accomplish with the policy, and thoroughly understand how to achieve your goal using the various match conditions and actions. Define the policy and the policy components. The components include criteria against which routes or packets are compared and actions that are performed if the criteria are met. For more information, see Policy Components.
- Make certain that you understand the default policies
and actions for the policy you are configuring.
Note: A defined policy does not take effect until you apply it.
- Apply the policy to whatever moves the routing information or packets through the router, for example, the routing protocol or the router interface.
- Configure an interface on the router. See the Junos OS Interfaces Configuration Guide for Security Devices.
Configure an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), if necessary. See:
- Configure the router interface to reject or accept routes, if necessary.
- Configure static routes, if necessary. See Example: Configuring a Basic Set of Static Routes.
- Name the policy. See Example: Creating a Routing Policy.
- Configure the policy term. See Example: Creating a Routing Policy Term.
- (Optional) Reject useless routes. See Example: Rejecting Known Invalid Routes.
- (Optional) Advertise additional routes. See Example: Injecting OSPF Routes into the BGP Routing Table.
- (Optional) Create a forwarding class. See Example: Grouping Source and Destination Prefixes into a Forwarding Class.
- (Optional) Make a route less preferable to BGP. See Example: Configuring a Routing Policy to Prepend the AS Path.
- (Optional) Suppress route information. See Example: Configuring Damping Parameters.
