Understanding EX8200 Virtual Chassis Hardware Configurations

The EX8200 Virtual Chassis supports a configuration with up to eight EX8200 member switches. The EX8200 member switches can be any mix of EX8208 and EX8216 switches. A backup XRE200 External Routing Engine is not required for an EX8200 Virtual Chassis to operate, but we recommend that you include a backup in any EX8200 Virtual Chassis configuration.

One Virtual Chassis Control Interface (VCCI) module is always required to create an EX8200 Virtual Chassis. A second VCCI module is required if you want to create a Virtual Chassis with five or more member switches while using the recommended backup XRE200 External Routing Engine. You can use any combination of RJ-45 and SFP VCCI modules to create any EX8200 Virtual Chassis.

All switches and external Routing Engines in an EX8200 Virtual Chassis must run the same version of Juniper Networks Junos operating system (Junos OS).
