Calculation of the New Tunnel Bandwidth

The calculation of the new tunnel bandwidth works in the following way:

If the resize option is set to “Only Increase” (in the Design > Design Options > Demand/Tunnel Sizing) and the tunnel’s planned bandwidth is strictly greater than the total flow or measured tunnel traffic bandwidth, then the tunnel will not be resized. Otherwise, a new bandwidth will be calculated using the following procedure:

  1. First, compute:

Temp = (Flow Bandwidth * Growth Multiplier) + Growth Constant

  2. Round up the temp value to the nearest multiple of the Tunnel Bandwidth Increment, as specified in the tunnel sizing options.

  3. If this value is less than the Minimum Tunnel Bandwidth, then the new bandwidth is set to the value of the minimum tunnel BW.

  4. If this value is greater than the Maximum Tunnel Bandwidth, then the new bandwidth is set to the value of the maximum tunnel BW.

  5. Otherwise, simply use the new rounded up bandwidth value.
