Challenge

Patient experience key to growth

With a mission to help people live longer and better, Recoletas Salud has grown through investment and acquisition to double in size over the last few years. Patients are coming for quality care and timely access to thousands of specialized doctors at its hospitals, medical centers, and imaging diagnostic centers across Spain.

As Recoletas Salud expanded, it wanted to modernize and standardize its wired and wireless network to deliver fast, assured connectivity for clinicians and administrators, biomedical equipment, and hospital operations. A network that would be easy to deploy and maintain across 55 locations—and growing—was a priority for the central IT team.

Executive leadership also saw the opportunity for the network to deliver business value in addition to improving the speed, security, and reliability of their network connections. The right network could deliver business insights that would improve the experience for patients and their families.

“Patient and user customer service is a priority for us, and we saw the value in using technology to help patients and visitors have a better experience,” says Alberto Pedrosa, CIO at Recoletas Salud. “With the right network, we could guide customers to their destinations in our hospitals and clinics and provide them the best information about our services.”

Recoletas Salud Challenge
Solution

AI-Native Networking delivers business value

Recoletas Salud chose the Juniper AI-Native Networking Platform for its ability to deliver advanced AI for IT operations (AIOps) to assure exceptional digital experiences for clinicians, administrators, patients, and guests. With more than nine years of reinforced learning in a microservices cloud, the Juniper AI-Native Networking Platform provides the assurance that every connection is more reliable, measurable, and secure for every device, user, and application.

Recoletas Salud uses Juniper networking in 10 hospitals and 35 clinics, with plans for a complete rollout by the end of 2026.

Recoletas Salud uses Juniper AP33 Wireless Access Points deliver high-performance Wi-Fi 6 to connect mobile devices and is preparing to develop new tools that use virtual Bluetooth Low Energy (vBLE) to connect smart medical equipment and IoT devices and support high-accuracy indoor location services in its hospitals and clinics. Juniper EX2300, EX3400, and EX4300 Switches provide access switching, and Juniper QFX5120 Switches are used for the campus core.

The IT team leverages the Juniper microservices cloud, driven by Mist AI, to deliver new network features and updates without downtime. Juniper’s AIOps capabilities free up the IT team from routine maintenance tasks and allow greater focus on strategic projects. Juniper Mist Wireless (Wi-Fi) Assurance automates operations to make Wi-Fi more predictable, reliable, and measurable. Juniper Mist Wired Assurance brings cloud-native management to Juniper switches, supporting scale, agility, automation, visibility, and assured experiences. Juniper’s Marvis Virtual Network Assistant adds conversational AI to empower the IT team to speed issue resolution with the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact the end-user experience.

Recoletas Salud Solution
Outcome

Delivering exceptional, patient-centered care

“We view Juniper Mist AI and Premium Analytics as a key differentiator to enhance our customer experience,” says Pedrosa.

Recoletas Salud patients can get high quality care whether it is for a routine check-up or specialized care. Doctors and nurses have faster, more reliable access to patients’ electronic health records and other critical applications from their mobile devices over the Juniper AI-Native Network. Diagnostic equipment and other smart medical devices have more reliable connectivity. Phone calls and video collaboration come through loud and clear with Marvis addressing network issues proactively.

Business partners that provide clinical support, supply chain logistics, and other services can work productively and securely when onsite, while Recoletas Salud can mitigate third-party risk. Patients and their families can use the Wi-Fi to work, stream video, or other activities and enjoy an exceptional user experience.

Juniper Mist Premium Analytics provides end-to-end network observability and business intelligence. With Juniper, Recoletas Salud can turn anonymous network metadata into business insights about how people move around the hospital, which not only allows IT to improve the Wi-Fi experience but also enhances the customer experience. Digital signage can keep patients informed about their appointments, clinic waiting times, and provide educational information and news. The hospital is enhancing its patient mobile app with navigation capabilities that tap into the Juniper indoor location services to easily find their way around the hospitals.

Recoletas Salud Outcome
“Juniper Mist AI and Premium Analytics will provide a powerful customer experience differentiator that boosts our private medical business in a country where public healthcare is widely available.”
