JCO100 Coherent Optical Transceivers

JCO100 (QSFP28) Coherent Pluggable Transceivers help you maximize capital investment, simplify operations, and elevate end user experiences. A core component of the Juniper Converged Optical Routing Architecture (CORA), JCO series optics work with Juniper routers and switches to deliver the benefits of IP over DWDM to enterprises and service providers transitioning to packet-optical convergence at 100G, 400G, 800G, and beyond.

JCO100 series optics minimize TCO through industry-leading power efficiency, operational simplicity, open architecture, and an integrated DWDM design. Juniper 100G ZR coherent optics conform to the small footprint and lower power specification of the ubiquitous QSFP28 form factor. They are supported by Juniper ACX Series, MX Series, and PTX Series routers, as well as in Juniper QFX Series Switches. Ideal for access, aggregation, and service edge use cases, the transceivers support an open and interoperable networking ecosystem.

JCO100 Coherent Optical Transceivers FAQs

What are Juniper’s coherent optics?

Juniper Coherent Optics (JCO) form the cornerstone of the Juniper Converged Optical Routing Architecture (CORA). They provide the fundamental elements necessary for service providers, cloud operators, enterprises, and government agencies to unlock the full potential of their IP-over-DWDM strategies for 100G, 400G, and 800G networking and beyond. Juniper's coherent optics are compliant with open standards driven by a variety of community-driven organizations. These best-in-class, power-efficient, and coherent pluggable transceivers seamlessly integrate with Juniper ACX SeriesMX Series, and PTX Series routers, as well as with Juniper QFX Series Switches.

What use cases do Juniper Coherent Optics support?

JCO transceivers support a variety of IP-over-DWDM network use cases. They’re ideal for enterprisemetro, regional, core, data center interconnect (DCI), and cloud networks, allowing operators to extend their network reach beyond the limits of previous DWDM technology. They support an open and interoperable networking ecosystem and help enterprises, service providers, and cloud providers realize the substantial TCO savings of a converged IP-optical infrastructure.

Why buy Juniper-branded JCO coherent optics?

JCO deliver industry-leading power efficiency and operational simplicity in QSFP28 (JCO100) and QSFP-DD (JCO400 and JCO800) footprint-optimized form factor. They enable enterprisesservice providers, and cloud providers to deploy Juniper CORA for a converged IP-optical infrastructure that eliminates the need for separate DWDM transponders, reducing complexity while improving TCO.

JCO pluggable transceivers comply with the latest revision of the OIF Common Management Interface Specification (CMIS). Accordingly, Juniper’s JCO pluggable transceivers can establish and maintain the media-side transmission link independent of the presence of host-side client signals. This ability to separate the host and line sides simplifies testing and provisioning of the optical elements of the network, independent of the IP-Ethernet layer.

JCO pluggable transceivers are part of Juniper’s family of Qualified Optics. Juniper Qualified Optics provide operators with compelling reasons to purchase optics directly from Juniper rather than third parties. The Juniper pluggable optics portfolio is competitively priced, breaking from the strategy of other platform vendors with overpriced optics. By leveraging Juniper Qualified Optics in Juniper routers and switches, customers benefit from Juniper’s comprehensive qualification process, supply chain diversity and continuity, and full system level support with no finger-pointing. Value, quality, sourcing, and support–leverage Juniper Qualified Optics in your network.
