View L2 Circuit Passive Assurance Monitoring Data

date_range 29-Jan-25

After provisioning an L2 circuit service instance in the network, Paragon Automation automatically monitors the health of the service and its related components. You can view the health check results and the alerts generated to indicate if any user action is required. The monitoring data is categorized into accordions and each accordion displays related information and alerts generated.

You can view the following accordions for L2 circuit service instances:

  • Physical Interfaces—View health check results for physical interfaces of PE devices through which the VPN service spans. Health check results include parameters such as:

    • Link flaps

    • Link state

    • Input and output bandwidth utilization

    • Input and output error counts

    • Interface speed

See Physical Interfaces Health Check Results.

  • Logical Interfaces—View health check results for operation status of the logical interfaces through which the VPN service spans. See Logical Interfaces Health Check Results.

  • L2 Circuit—View health check results for the L2 circuit connection status. See View L2 Circuit Service Health Check Results.

View L2 Circuit Service Health Check Results

The L2 Circuit accordion displays the L2 circuit service related components.

To access the L2 Circuit accordion:

  1. Navigate to the Orchestration > Instances > Service Instances page.

  2. Select a service instance and click the service-instance-name hyperlink to access the Service-Instance-Name Details page.

  3. Click the Passive Assurance tab.

  4. Expand the L2 Circuit accordion.

Table 1 lists the fields in the Eline L2circuit NSM table.

Note:

KPI-related data may not be displayed in the accordion tables and on the graphs when:

  • There are device errors.

  • The data displayed is derived from or is dependent on another KPI which is not being streamed by the devices.

To view health check results for the L2 circuit service connection status, click any hyperlinked entry in the Connection Status column of the Eline L2circuit NSM table. The corresponding accordion in the Eline L2circuit NSM Details for service-instance-name page displays the health check results.

Table 1: Fields in the Eline L2Circuit NSM Table

Field

Description

Device Name

Name of the PE device through which the L2 circuit service spans.

Neighbor

The IP address of the peer or neighbor PE device with which the PE device connects to create the L2 circuit in the MPLS network.

Connection ID

Unique ID for the L2 circuit connection between the two PE devices.

The connection ID is in the sub-interface-index (virtual-circuit-id) format. For example, xe-0/0/0/0.0(vc 2).

Connection Status

The connection status of the L2 circuit:

  • Up—The L2 circuit connection is active or operational.

  • Down—The L2 circuit connection is not in active or operational state.

View Health Check Results for L2 Circuit Connection Status

The Eline L2circuit NSM Details for service-instance-name page displays the health check results for the connection status of the L2 circuit. You can view the PE device name, the IP address of the peer or neighbor PE device, and the L2 circuit connection ID at the top of the page. The accordion heading displays the parameter name, alerts generated for the parameter, and a condensed view of the performance graph displaying the health and functioning of the parameter.

To view the health check results in detail, expand the accordion. The accordion displays the performance graph for the L2 circuit connection status. The x-axis (horizontal) on the performance graph displays the time for which information is displayed. The graph displays a line with the data points related to events that have occurred. The line color indicates the connection status (Up or Down) of the L2 circuit. A blue line indicates that the status is Up and active. A gray line indicates that the status is Down and inactive. Click any data point on the line to view more information about the corresponding event in a pop-up. For more information about performance graphs, see Performance Graphs to View Passive Assurance Monitoring Data.

The peer or neighbor IP address and connection ID for the L2 circuit are displayed to the left of the graph in the neighbor-IP-address : connection ID format.
