XRE200 Network Cable and Transceiver Planning
Pluggable Transceivers Supported on XRE200 External Routing Engines
The SFP Virtual Chassis Control Interface (VCCI) module for XRE200 External Routing Engines supports SFP transceivers. You can find the list of transceivers supported on XRE200 External Routing Engines and information about those transceivers at the Hardware Compatibility Tool page for XRE200.
We recommend that you use only optical transceivers and optical connectors purchased from Juniper Networks with your Juniper Networks device.
If you face a problem running a Juniper Networks device that uses a third-party optic or cable, the Juniper Networks Technical Assistance Center (JTAC) can help you diagnose the source of the problem. Your JTAC engineer might recommend that you check the third-party optic or cable and potentially replace it with an equivalent Juniper Networks optic or cable that is qualified for the device.
The Gigabit Ethernet SFP transceivers installed in XRE200 External Routing Engines support digital optical monitoring (DOM): You can view the diagnostic details for these transceivers by issuing the operational mode CLI command show interfaces diagnostics optics.
Cables Connecting the XRE200 External Routing Engine to XRE200 External Routing Engines and EX8200 Switches
An XRE200 External Routing Engine connects to EX8200 switches and XRE200 External Routing Engines to form a Virtual Chassis topology. An XRE200 External Routing Engine connects to the management Ethernet port (labeled MGMT) on the Routing Engine when connecting to EX8200 switches. XRE200 External Routing Engines connect to any Virtual Chassis port (VCP) when connecting to other external Routing Engines.
The same cables are used to connect XRE200 External Routing Engines to EX8200 switches or to XRE200 External Routing Engines. Table 1 lists the specifications for the cables that connect the XRE200 External Routing Engine to EX8200 switches. Table 2 lists the specifications for the cables that connect XRE200 External Routing Engines to one another.
Table 1: Cable Specifications for XRE200 External Routing Engine to EX8200 Switch Connections
Port on XRE200 External Routing Engine | Port on Routing Engine of EX8200 Switch | Cable Specification | Cable/Wire Supplied | Maximum Length | Receptacle |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Ethernet VCP | Management Ethernet (MGMT) port | Category 5 cable or equivalent suitable for 1000BASE-T operation | Two 7-foot (2.13-meter) length with RJ-45 connectors | 328 feet (100 meters) | RJ-45 autosensing |
Table 2: Cable Specifications for XRE200 External Routing Engine to XRE200 External Routing Engine Connections
Port on XRE200 External Routing Engine | Cable Specification | Cable/Wire Supplied | Maximum Length | Receptacle |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ethernet VCP | Category 5 cable or equivalent suitable for 1000BASE-T operation | Two 7-foot (2.13-meter) length with RJ-45 connectors | 328 feet (100 meters) | RJ-45 autosensing |
SFP VCP | 1-gigabit SFP module connector for 1000BASE-X Gigabit Ethernet SFP module port | None | 43.5 miles (70 km) | SFP port |
Cables Connecting the XRE200 External Routing Engine to Management Devices
Table 3 lists the specifications for cables that connect the XRE200 External Routing Engine to a management device.
Table 3: Cable Specifications for Connections Between External Routing Engines and Management Devices
Port on External Routing Engine | Cable Specification | Cable/Wire Supplied | Maximum Length | External Routing Engine Receptacle |
