Juniper Mist Routing Assurance Overview
Clear and real-time visibility into the functioning of network devices and the network as a whole is important for network administrators to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and network services. Visibility into the functioning of the network helps administrators proactively respond to events that affect the performance of the network.
Network observability has become an increasingly crucial function in the ever-evolving networking landscape. Observability extends beyond traditional network monitoring and is concerned with understanding the state and performance of network devices based on the telemetry data collected from them.
Network administrators often use ad hoc tools such as scripts to obtain routing insights from the network. The information collected by such tools may be inconsistent and gives administrators only a partial view of the routing platform and does not identify blind spots such as packet drops and peering quality issues in enterprise networks.
Enterprises face a multitude of complexities and challenges. But regardless of the industry, limited resources are almost always at the top of the list with 86% of CIOs claiming a lack of skilled workers. This has driven a strong demand for automation tools, which help IT teams meet emerging business needs while keeping costs to a minimum.
For distributed enterprises, the need for automation is especially critical when it comes to the wide area network. Whether running SD-WAN, SaaS, or traditional routers in branch locations, the need for agile, scalable, and reliable operations is Paramount.
Juniper Mist routing Assurance, the latest addition to our AI-native networking platform, is key to delivering on this objective. It brings Juniper's high performance, versatile MX and ACX edge routers under the premier Mist AI engine and cloud.
As an AI-native and cloud-native service, Routing Assurance simplifies operations and delivers the most effective way to monitor, analyze, and resolve issues swiftly across multiple branch offices, WAN edges and peering locations.
Let's dig in and look at how this Innovative solution works.
First, you'll be able to easily onboard your Juniper routers such as MX304, MX204, and ACX7024. Your operations team can do this in minutes with our highly intuitive user interface driven by Mist AI. It's SaaS. So, there's no overhead, no installation, and no infrastructure to maintain.
Then, simply begin to extract insights and monitor your routers. You'll extract key metrics like temperatures, speeds, versions, locations, workload reachability, physical inventory, BGP status, class of service, and queuing.
You can easily visualize events like configuration changes, analyze their performance impacts, check the EOL/EOS status of their entire installed base. You can also see security and vulnerability issues whether it's SIRTs or bug notifications affecting the network.
Simple, right?
Exactly! Simplicity is the whole point!
But there's more. You now have a single source for WAN router events, suggested corrective Actions, and service level expectations or SLE that optimize device health. This same source also manages activities for SD-WAN and SaaS for complete WAN automation insight and assurance.
And wired access, wireless access, and the data center are also part of the Mist AI and Cloud umbrella for broad value and cost savings across an entire distributed enterprise.
In addition, Marvis, the first and only AI-native virtual network assistant with conversational AI has also been extended to the enterprise routing domain.
Marvis empowers your team with chat assistance allowing faster documentation search, and will improve performance degradation, troubleshooting, and offer recommended remediation actions. With Mist Routing Assurance and Marvis VNA for routing, distributed enterprises can now easily deploy and manage Juniper's proven and sustainable edge routers with all the AI-native assurance and cost savings delivered via the Mist AI portfolio.
Juniper's AI-native networking platform with industry-leading automation lets you do more with less, driving increased value to your business while saving time and money.
But don't take our word for it.

Juniper Mist Routing Assurance is an AIOps-based Day 2 assurance platform that provides full visibility into network, and goes beyond the access layer, to the routing platforms. The Juniper Mist Routing Assurance application can analyze router performance, detect network anomalies, and correlate router events to provide faster resolution of routing anomalies such as packet drop or port failure.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance provides visibility and insights into the routing platform, forwarding (Interfaces and Queues), and routing health (BGP peering quality). It helps administrators identify issues in routers peering with upstream service providers' routers, cloud providers' routers or partners' routers. Router events and alarms help notify administrators whenever there is an issue that needs attention.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance leverages device telemetry to gain insights into several essential metrics related to routers' health and performance, and displays them on a dashboard. These metrics are pivotal for network operators to make operational decisions regarding cost, performance, reliability, and security. These insights enable network administrators to proactively respond to network events and anomalies.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance collects metrics for service-level expectations (SLEs), such as router performance, throughput, and routing health. Network administrators can review the variations in these metrics and identify potential problems in the network. In addition, you can use the SLEs to identify and troubleshoot issues that might cause service degradation.
You can onboard routers to Juniper Mist Routing Assurance and start monitoring them at the click of a mouse. Visualizations of events, such as packet drops and port errors, enable you to easily correlate events with router performance.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance provides actionable insights of the following and renders these insights in tables and time series graphs:
-
Platform─Provides information about the performance of the routing platform and its components, such as interfaces and ports, CPU and memory utilization, temperature, power consumption, and so on.
-
Forwarding─Provides information about interface queues and packet drops.
-
Routing─Provides information about router events, BGP summary, port errors and so on.
These time series graphs enable users to view vital router metrics such as BGP peer status, peer flaps, queue depth utilization, and so on. Users can also view global BGP summary for a routing information base (RIB) and BGP summary for a RIB for a particular BGP peer, all on a single dashboard.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance is an AI-native routing observability platform for real-time monitoring of enterprise routers deployed in various roles such as WAN edge, branch and campus edge, peering locations (Cloud Connect and Partners) and Internet Gateways.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance also enables you to:
-
Check the status of router ports and physical inventory in real time, through visualizations of all ports and their status. For more information, see Router Port Status.
-
Monitor and collect router insights such as CPU utilization, memory utilization, port errors, interface queue status, device reachability, and so on. For more information, see Router Charts and Router Interface Queues.
