Juniper Mist Routing Assurance Overview
Clear and real-time visibility into the functioning of network devices and the network as a whole is important for network administrators to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and network services. Visibility into the functioning of the network helps administrators proactively respond to events that affect the performance of the network.
Network observability has become an increasingly crucial function in the ever-evolving networking landscape. Observability extends beyond traditional network monitoring and is concerned with understanding the state and performance of network devices based on the telemetry data collected from them.
Network administrators often use ad hoc tools such as scripts to obtain routing insights from the network. The information collected by such tools may be inconsistent and gives administrators only a partial view of the routing platform and does not identify blind spots such as packet drops and peering quality issues in enterprise networks.
Video 1: Mist Routing Assurance Overview
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance is an AIOps-based Day 2 assurance platform that provides full visibility into network, and goes beyond the access layer, to the routing platforms. The Juniper Mist Routing Assurance application can analyze router performance, detect network anomalies, and correlate router events to provide faster resolution of routing anomalies such as packet drop or port failure.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance provides visibility and insights into the routing platform, forwarding (Interfaces and Queues), and routing health (BGP peering quality). It helps administrators identify issues in routers peering with upstream service providers' routers, cloud providers' routers or partners' routers. Router events and alarms help notify administrators whenever there is an issue that needs attention.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance leverages device telemetry to gain insights into several essential metrics related to routers' health and performance, and displays them on a dashboard. These metrics are pivotal for network operators to make operational decisions regarding cost, performance, reliability, and security. These insights enable network administrators to proactively respond to network events and anomalies.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance collects metrics for service-level expectations (SLEs), such as router performance, throughput, and routing health. Network administrators can review the variations in these metrics and identify potential problems in the network. In addition, you can use the SLEs to identify and troubleshoot issues that might cause service degradation.
You can onboard routers to Juniper Mist Routing Assurance and start monitoring them at the click of a mouse. Visualizations of events, such as packet drops and port errors, enable you to easily correlate events with router performance.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance provides actionable insights of the following and renders these insights in tables and time series graphs:
Platform─Provides information about the performance of the routing platform and its components, such as interfaces and ports, CPU and memory utilization, temperature, power consumption, and so on.
Forwarding─Provides information about interface queues and packet drops.
Routing─Provides information about router events, BGP summary, port errors and so on.
These time series graphs enable users to view vital router metrics such as BGP peer status, peer flaps, queue depth utilization, and so on. Users can also view global BGP summary for a routing information base (RIB) and BGP summary for a RIB for a particular BGP peer, all on a single dashboard.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance is an AI-native routing observability platform for real-time monitoring of enterprise routers deployed in various roles such as WAN edge, branch and campus edge, peering locations (Cloud Connect and Partners) and Internet Gateways.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance also enables you to:
Check the status of router ports and physical inventory in real time, through visualizations of all ports and their status. For more information, see Router Port Status.
Monitor and collect router insights such as CPU utilization, memory utilization, port errors, interface queue status, device reachability, and so on. For more information, see Router Charts and Router Interface Queues.
Visualize BGP peer status, peer flaps, and routing table statistics of BGP peers on a single dashboard. For more information, see BGP Global Summary and BGP Peers Summary.
Visualize router events like device configuration changes and their performance impact. For more information, see Router Events.
Identify and troubleshoot issues that might cause service degradation. You can use the Router Health SLE and the Router Throughput SLE scores to assess the health of a router and the network throughput, respectively. For more information, see About the Service Levels Page.
Assess the quality of users' experiences on the network. You can view the service levels from different routers at an organization level and at site levels. For more information, see Overall Service.
Provides end of life (EOL) and end of service (EOS) information for your entire inventory.
View Security Incident Resource Team (SIRT) advisories for the onboarded routers.
Juniper Mist Routing Assurance also has handy tools such as trace route, cable test, bounce port and so on that help you troubleshoot network issues easily. To see the list of routers that Juniper Mist Routing Assurance supports, see Supported Hardware Platforms.
