Description
You configure the graceful restart routing option
globally to enable the feature, but not to enable graceful restart
for all routing protocols in a routing instance. To enable graceful
restart globally, include the graceful-restart statement under the [edit routing options]
hierarchy level. This enables graceful
restart globally for all routing protocols. You can, optionally, modify
the global settings at the individual protocol level.
For VPNs, the
graceful-restart
statement allows a router whose VPN control plane is undergoing a restart to continue to forward traffic while recovering its state from neighboring routers. For BGP, if you configure graceful restart after a BGP session has been established, the BGP session restarts and the peers negotiate graceful restart capabilities.
LDP sessions flap when
graceful-restart
configurations change.
Default
Graceful restart is disabled by default.
